so much to say

We used to blog more before twitter came along.

Google Checkout released

Interesting system released by Google today.

http://checkout.google.com/sell

We are working on implementing online payment functionality for our Event Management System (and later this summer a major upgrade to our online giving system) and had pretty much committed to using Authorize.net for this first rollout. The Google system looks pretty tight. but I don't especially want to tie *everything* we do to them.

It looks to be as simple as Paypal with the added benefit of discounted (or possibly free) service for AdWords clients. I'll keep an eye on Camden to see if he starts using this for his "goods" and act accordingly ;-)

<A HREF="http://blog.lakedavid.com"&g's Gravatar Nice! After sharing this with a couple people at work. there is already mucho discussion about using this for our new webstore instead of buying a DNN eCommerce component. It seems like it doesn't come with a shopping cart. however.

Steve's Gravatar Forget DNN - it'll be a pain to manage if you don't have good .NET folks on speed-dial. I've found too many of them don't know how to do stuff if the Visual Studio IDE doesn't generate it for them :-)

You do need a cart - even if it's not a formal "store" application. In your case. it can be cobbled together fairly easily from other (simpler) components and use Google Checkout. Paypal. Authorize.net. Verisign or whatever other payment gateway you want.

Honestly. Google is just another option for payment fulfillment with ZERO bearing on the technology you choose to actually sell stuff from your site.
